Hi, I’m Hannah Treger. I am a sophomore at the University of Maryland, College Park from Ellicott City. I am majoring in Public Health Science. I am also part of the media program in the College Park Scholars Living and Learning Program. I chose to participate in media scholars because I was interested to see how media can influence how events are portrayed to the public. This topic sparked my interest and was the perfect opportunity to complete a program that did not directly fall into my major or other classes but was still important to me. Media scholars have been the perfect opportunity to explore a field outside of my major, while also learning about how it can relate back to health and medicine, especially how public health gets portrayed in the news media and politics. I am excited to continue with my scholar’s experience at the University of Maryland and hope to continue to gain an understanding of how media affects our daily life, and how I can apply this knowledge into my future studies in public health-related topics and later in medicine.
